Freiburg remain
hopeful that Matthias Ginter, who has been linked with Arsenal and
Manchester United, will remain at the club beyond this season.
United boss David Moyes is believed to have been scouting Ginter in recent weeks ahead of a possible summer bid.
The
21-year-old, who is valued at around £9million, has also been linked
with Arsenal, as well as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but
Freiburg chairman Fritz Keller is hopeful that the highly-rated
youngster will stay at the Mage Solar Stadion.
"He has a long-term contract and for a player his age, it may be interesting to stay another year for stability," Keller told Badische Zeitung.
"This is in my opinion better than to sit on the bench for one of the big clubs."
Ginter has in recent weeks hinted at a summer move away from Freiburg, and Keller admits that he cannot avoid losing players.
"We must always expect players to leave us," he added.
"Turnover
is normal for us, as we have seen recently, but we do our homework.
Sure we can continue to do this, but it is important that we get a new
stadium. Then we can keep players maybe a year longer.
"A stadium is not a luxury, but important in the struggle for survival."
Earlier this month, Ginter had told SPORT1 when asked about a summer move: "I am unable to publicly discuss negotiations, this should remain behind closed doors.
"It's definitely good to know great clubs are interested in my services. It's an honour to see clubs like this being keen.
"It's my goal to play for a big club one day in the future. This is no secret.
"It doesn't need to be Bayern Munich. Still, to play for a big club is the dream of every football player."
