Barcelona’s Spanish keeper Victor Valdes suffered a potentially harrowing injury on Wednesday night.
Playing against Celta Vigo, the Barcelona stopper was taken off on a stretcher in the 22nd minute after falling awkwardly when defending a set-play.
It has since been reported that Valdes has torn his anterior knee ligament and the goalie has now seen his World Cup dreams evapourate as the keeper’s season was brought to an end.
Early reports are that Valdes will be out for six months.
News of Valdes’ injury spread quickly, and Manchester United goalie David De Gea offered his support for his international teammate on Twitter.
Man United’s De Gea wrote “I want to give all my support n strength to a goalkeeper that I admire n respect. @1victorvaldes wish u get well and see u soon in the pitch.”
