Manchester United's Adnan Januzaj will not play for Kosovo next month

 

Manchester United star Adnan Januzaj will not be playing for Kosovo in their first-ever full international next month, his father has confirmed.

Kosovo have been given permission by FIFA to play against full member nations who recognise them as a state, although any such meetings would not qualify as international fixtures.

Haiti are due to provide the opposition on March 5, and Kosovo had hoped United midfielder Januzaj would play some part.

But the player's father Abedin says his son is yet to commit his future to any country, with Belgium, Albania, Turkey, Serbia and also England all hoping they could win what has transformed into a battle for the 19-year-old's services.

"I was born there and I would like my son to play for the national team of my country, but the matter is delicate, because the Kosovo FA is not yet a member of FIFA," Abedin Januzaj told Kosovan TV station Kohavision.

"Maybe one day Adnan will play for Kosovo, but for now, this will not happen. And we have a lot of time to think about everything."

England coach Roy Hodgson recently refused to rule out the prospect of calling up Januzaj, who would not be available until before the 2018 World Cup.
