Man Utd form has been 'embarrassing' - Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand admits he has been "embarrassed" by the club's form this season.

Although they beat Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League at the weekend, United have largely struggled this season and have little hope of finishing in the top four.

Despite still being in Europe, Ferdinand admits he has found it hard to show his face in public in recent months.

Speaking before the Villa game, the centre-back told BT Sport when quizzed about United's recent displays: "It's embarrassing. I don't want to go out when the game is finished and you even stop watching TV. I don't want to take my kids to school. I don't want to fill my car up with petrol or go to the shops.

"I don't want to walk on the school path and think I'm hearing things or seeing people look at me because we lost a game.

"It gets personal with everyone looking at you and talking about the results and the form and stuff. You don't want to live like that. You want to live freely and comfortably."

Ferdinand also admits he and his team-mates have not earned the right to win games this season under Moyes.

"You don't want to see other people lifting titles," he added.

"That's what we're used to. That's what we want. That's what we train for and work for. Don't get me wrong, we've got no divine right. You've got to earn that right - and this season, we simply haven't done that."
