Five players David Moyes should sign in the summer to get Manchester United back on track

Ilkay Gundogan

With Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas both having thrived since the summer, Moyes must look elsewhere for a midfield orchestrator. Gundogan, a pecussive two-footed passer would be the ideal candidate. He has been superb for Borussia Dortmund since stepping into the shoes of Nuri Sahin (who has since returned), and was arguably the key man in their run to the Champions League final. He wouldn't come cheap, of course. But in Shinji Kagawa, United may have a useful bargaining chip.

Luke Shaw

 Luke Shaw

Southampton youngster Shaw would be a ready-made replacement for Evra if he leaves, and in many ways an upgrade. Dogged, athletic and comfortable on the ball, he could easily make the left-back position his own for the next ten to 15 years. Even at £20million or more, he would surely represent value for money.

Jan Vertonghen

He may have missed a significant chunk of this season, but there can be no doubt that the spurs defender is a class act. He took to the Premier League like a duck to water after swapping Ajax for Tottenham, impressing both in the centre and on the left of the back four.

 Jan Vertonghen

That flexibility would make him a valuable asset to United, as would his eye for goal. Vertonghen also appears to have the personality to become a leader on the pitch, meaning he would help soften the blow of losing the influential Nemanja Vidic.

Antoine Griezmann

 Antoine Griezmann

For a club whose history has been graced by so many flying wingers, United haven't half got a dud roster at the moment. Griezmann ticks a number of boxes. He has lightning pace, enjoys running at his man and has become a picture of consistency for Real Sociedad this term, scoring 14 goals in 20 starts despite not being an out-and-out striker. He is also just 22. If United can shift Nani, he would be a brilliant acquisition.

Kevin Strootman

Linked extensively with a move to Old Trafford before joining Roma, the 23 year old would be another solid addition to the squad. Robust, intelligent and blessed with fine technique, he seems well suited to the Premier League, and would probably cost less than the likes of Koke and Ander Herrera.
